The Qur’an, Rome, and How a Revelation Becomes a Weapon

This started as a joke.

I was discussing Muhammad, Rome, the crucifixion, religious authority, military power, and the way entire civilizations can be built around the claims of one man.

Then I said:

Combine the Book of Mormon with The Art of War, and you pretty much have the Qur’an—complete with virgin wives.

It sounds outrageous.
But the more I thought about it, the less it sounded like a joke.

I am not claiming Muhammad copied Joseph Smith. The Qur’an came more than a thousand years before the Book of Mormon.
I am not claiming he copied Sun Tzu either.

The comparison is structural:

The Book of Mormon represents a later prophet delivering a new revelation that rewrites earlier biblical history.

The Art of War represents strategy, authority, discipline, intelligence, loyalty, conflict, reward, punishment, and victory.

Put those two functions together, and you have the basic structure of the system Muhammad created:

• A later prophet appears.
• He claims to speak for God.
• His revelation corrects what Jews and Christians previously believed.
• Obedience to the prophet becomes obedience to God.
• The prophet becomes a political leader, lawgiver, judge, diplomat, and military commander.
• His revelations address fighting, enemies, taxation, captured property, authority, and rewards.
• Then the movement expands into an empire.

That is not merely a private religion.

That is an ideology capable of becoming a weapon.

EVERY WEAPON BEGINS AS AN IDEA

A gun is just metal until someone gives it a purpose and a target.

A military is just a collection of people until an ideology tells them:

• Who is right.
• Who is wrong.
• Who must be obeyed.
• Who deserves punishment.
• Which territory belongs to them.
• What God supposedly wants.
• What awaits them if they die.
• Why killing an enemy may be called righteous.

That is why Weapons Freak cannot be limited to guns, knives, ammunition, or military hardware.

• An idea can be weaponized.
• A book can be weaponized.
• Religion can be weaponized.

The deadliest weapon in history may be the belief that God personally authorized your political leader, your government, your laws, your army, and your war.

ROME CRUCIFIED JESUS

The crucifixion was not an Arabian event.

It happened in first-century Judea under Roman authority.

Pontius Pilate represented Rome. Roman soldiers conducted the execution. Pilate ordered an inscription identifying Jesus as the “King of the Jews.”

The Roman historian Tacitus later wrote that Christus suffered the “extreme penalty” during the reign of Tiberius under Pontius Pilate.^[1]

The Gospel of John places the beloved disciple beside the cross. It also presents its account as eyewitness testimony:

“He that saw it bare record, and his record is true.”

John 21:24 says the disciple testifying to these things also wrote them. Writing in the second century, Irenaeus identified John—the disciple of the Lord who leaned upon His breast—as the man who published the Gospel while living at Ephesus.^[2]

People can debate manuscripts, editing, authorship, and tradition. But they cannot honestly pretend the Gospel of John presents itself as speculation from a man born six centuries later in another country.

It presents eyewitness testimony.

YOUR GUY WASN’T THERE

Muhammad was born around A.D. 570 and died in 632.

No surviving historical account places him at the crucifixion, in first-century Judea, or in the city of Rome. His life belonged to Arabia and, near its end, military activity toward the Byzantine frontier.

• He did not meet Pilate.
• He did not interview Roman soldiers.
• He did not stand beside the cross.
• He did not question John or Peter.
• He was not born until nearly six centuries later.

Yet Qur’an 4:157 declares that Jesus was neither killed nor crucified and says it was made to appear that way.^[3]

That produces a painfully obvious historical question:

Why should a seventh-century denial from Arabia automatically overrule testimony rooted in the first-century Roman world where the execution occurred?

The answer usually amounts to:

“Because Muhammad was a prophet.”

But that does not prove his statement.

It assumes it.

You must first believe Muhammad spoke for God. Then you use Muhammad’s revelation to prove Muhammad spoke for God.

That is a circle, not evidence.

I put it more bluntly on X:

Rome carried out the crucifixion. John stood at the cross. Muhammad never even went to Rome and wasn’t born for another 600 years. I’ll believe the eyewitness over a man in Arabia rewriting history from a camel.

The camel line makes people angry.

The timeline should make them think.

MUHAMMAD WAS NOT A NEUTRAL HISTORIAN

Muhammad was not sitting in a university library comparing Roman records.

He was founding a competing religious order.

After migrating to Medina in 622, he became far more than a preacher. He exercised religious, political, legal, diplomatic, and military authority. His movement developed into a religious, political, and cultural commonwealth that became an empire.^[4]

Muhammad did not merely offer another opinion about Jesus. He claimed final prophetic authority.

His message positioned itself as the correction of what Jews and Christians supposedly misunderstood or corrupted.

The later revelation did not simply join Christianity.

It replaced Christianity’s central claim with another version.

Christianity says Jesus was crucified, died, and rose again.

The Qur’an says He was not crucified.

Both cannot be historically true in the same sense.

Someone rewrote the story.

WHY WOULD A COMPETING MOVEMENT DENY A ROMAN CRUCIFIXION?

We cannot prove Muhammad’s private motive.

There is no surviving note in which he says he denied the crucifixion because Roman Christianity was his political and religious enemy.

But asking the question is legitimate.

Muhammad’s movement reached toward the Eastern Roman—Byzantine—world during his lifetime. Historical traditions describe expeditions involving Mu’tah, Tabuk, and the Syrian frontier.^[5]

Byzantium was Rome.

Calling it Byzantium does not make it unrelated to Rome any more than fighting the United States in Wyoming means you are not fighting the United States.

Muhammad did not need to enter the physical city of Rome to enter conflict with the Roman imperial world.

So the question remains:

Was the denial of the crucifixion purely theological, or did it also serve a competing movement separating itself from Roman Christianity?

That motive cannot be proved.

But the setting makes the question reasonable.

THE BOOK OF MORMON HALF

The comparison is not about identical theology. It is about the mechanics of a later revelation.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints teaches that the angel Moroni directed Joseph Smith to gold plates containing an ancient record, which became the Book of Mormon.^[6]

The structural pattern is:

• A man appears long after the biblical events.
• He claims supernatural access to another revelation.
• The new record adds to or reframes biblical history.
• The man’s authority validates the book.
• The book validates the man.

Muhammad’s claim functions similarly. The Qur’an identifies Gabriel as the angel who delivered the revelation to Muhammad.^[7]

Different angels. Different centuries. Different countries.

But the structure is remarkably similar:

• An angel appears.
• A man is selected.
• A later revelation is delivered.
• Earlier biblical history is revised.
• The prophet authenticates the revelation.
• The revelation authenticates the prophet.

That does not automatically prove either man was dishonest.

But it exposes the circular structure upon which both systems depend.

THE ANGEL—AND THE PARALLEL

This is not where the article needs to become a study of Mormonism. Mormonism is not the modern military weapon being examined here.

Its role in the equation is narrower: it shows how a later prophet, an angelic messenger, a new sacred record, revised biblical history, and an exaltation system can be assembled around one man’s claimed authority.

Historic Mormonism connected exaltation with eternal marriage, continuing posterity, becoming like God, and plural sealings intended to extend beyond death. Official LDS sources acknowledge that Joseph Smith entered plural marriages and that some sealings were described as “for eternity only.” Doctrine and Covenants 132 connects celestial marriage with exaltation and becoming gods.^[8]

Modern LDS teaching prohibits plural marriage, and Mormonism is not identical to Islam. But the historical parallel is still fascinating.

Islamic tradition contains its own eternal reward structure. The Qur’an describes heavenly companions, while a later hadith promises a martyr forgiveness, status, intercession for relatives, and marriage to seventy-two heavenly wives.^[9]

Both movements begin with a man claiming angelic revelation, establish his authority through a later sacred text, revise earlier biblical history, and develop an eternal order connecting faithful men with exalted status, marriage, continuing reward, and women.

The parallel is not identity.

It is structure.

The Mormon side supplies the angel, the later revelation, the revised biblical story, the self-validating prophet, and the eternal marital reward system.

The Art of War side supplies leadership, discipline, enemies, conflict, reward, punishment, conquest, and the machinery of organized power.

Put those sides together, and the opening joke becomes harder to dismiss.

THE ART OF WAR HALF

The Qur’an is not merely a collection of prayers or private spiritual reflections.

It speaks about authority, obedience, warfare, enemies, taxation, captured property, victory, punishment, and reward.

Surah 8 is titled The Spoils of War. Qur’an 8:41 assigns one-fifth of captured property to Allah, the messenger, his relatives, and specified groups. Qur’an 9:29 orders fighting certain People of the Book until they pay jizya in submission.^[10]

This is where the Art of War comparison works—not because the books are identical, but because the system joins claimed divine revelation to the machinery of earthly power:

• Leadership.
• Obedience.
• Group identity.
• Law.
• Enemies.
• Fighting.
• Taxes.
• Captured property.
• Rewards.
• Punishment.
• Territory.
• Victory.

When the man claiming to speak for God is also the political ruler and military commander, disagreement with the ruler can become disagreement with God.

• A military decision can become a divine command.
• A political enemy can become an enemy of the faith.
• A territorial conflict can become a holy cause.

That is how revelation becomes a weapon.

Then add something every military recruiter understands:

• Earthly victory if you survive.
• Paradise if you die.
• Status.
• Honor.
• Forgiveness.
• Benefits for your family.
• Women.

That is one powerful compensation package.

Reward the warrior on earth if he wins. Reward him in paradise if he dies. Either outcome can be presented as victory.

MUHAMMAD DID NOT FIGHT IN THE CRUSADES—BUT HISTORY DID NOT BEGIN IN 1095

Muhammad died in 632. Pope Urban II called the First Crusade in 1095.

Obviously, Muhammad did not personally fight in the Crusades.

But after his death, Muslim armies moved into major Eastern Roman territories.

Damascus fell. Byzantine forces were decisively defeated at Yarmouk. Syria and Palestine passed out of Eastern Roman control, and Egypt followed soon afterward. A movement that had been centered largely in Arabia became an imperial power occupying enormous territories formerly governed by Rome.

Centuries later, the Byzantine emperor appealed to the West, and Pope Urban II called the First Crusade in 1095.^[11]

The accurate conclusion is:

Muhammad founded the religious-political movement whose expansion into Roman-Christian territories became part of the centuries-long conflict from which the Crusades eventually emerged.

He did not live to see the Crusades.

But what he started helped create the world in which they happened.

IRAN: WHEN THE IDEOLOGY BECOMES A MODERN STATE

Millions of Muslims live ordinary lives and want nothing to do with conquest or religious warfare.

But that does not erase what happens when an ideology is fused with government.

Modern Iran provides a living example.

Iran’s constitution requires laws to conform to Islamic criteria and describes armed institutions in explicitly Islamic and ideological terms. Its constitutional framework places enormous political and military authority in religious leadership.^[12]

That is a theocracy.

It embeds religious interpretation into law, courts, military power, candidate approval, foreign policy, and national identity.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps is not called the Secular Democratic Guard Corps.

Religion and military power are fused directly in the name.

And the consequences are not abstract. At the 2024 swearing-in of Iran’s president, lawmakers and officials chanted “Death to America” and “Death to Israel.”^[12]

That does not mean every Iranian agrees. Many oppose the government and have suffered under it.

But it proves the larger point:

A religious ideology can be embedded inside the machinery of an entire country and directed toward named enemies.

That is weaponization.

No rifle is required for the first step.

The weapon begins in the mind.

THIS IS BIGGER THAN ISLAM

The principle does not apply only to Islam.

• Christianity has been weaponized.
• Nationalism has been weaponized.
• Communism has been weaponized.
• Race has been weaponized.
• Democracy has been weaponized.
• Fear has been weaponized.
• Science has been weaponized.

The point is not that every Muslim is violent. That would be false.

The point is:

Any belief system that joins unquestionable divine authority to political control and military command creates an extremely powerful weapon.

Once a leader convinces followers that he speaks for God, he no longer needs to win every argument.

He only needs obedience.

• If he defines the enemy, God has supposedly defined the enemy.
• If he commands the battle, God has supposedly commanded the battle.
• If followers die, paradise awaits.
• If they win, God gave them victory.
• If they lose, God is testing them.

The system becomes nearly impossible to disprove from inside itself.

Every outcome confirms the prophet.

That is far more powerful than a sword.

THE EQUATION

THE BOOK OF MORMON + THE ART OF WAR = THE QUR’AN

The Book of Mormon portion:

A later prophet claims angelic revelation that adds to, corrects, or rewrites earlier biblical history—and connects exaltation with an eternal marital order.

The Art of War portion:

The revelation supports leadership, discipline, authority, conflict, taxation, captured property, reward, punishment, and organized power.

The Qur’anic system:

A seventh-century prophet contradicts first-century testimony about the crucifixion, becomes the political and military leader of a religious community, and leaves revelations foundational to law, government, warfare, and empire.

The analogy is not perfect.

No analogy is.

But it exposes a structure people rarely stop to examine.

THE QUESTION STILL STANDS

• Rome carried out the crucifixion.
• John presents testimony rooted at the cross.
• Roman history confirms Christus was executed under Pontius Pilate.
• Muhammad arrived nearly six centuries later.
• No historical record places him at the event or in Rome.
• His revelation denied the crucifixion while his movement confronted the Eastern Roman world.

So why should his later denial automatically be treated as superior history?

People are free to believe Muhammad was a prophet.

But calling him a prophet does not make him an eyewitness.

• Faith is not chronology.
• Revelation is not independent evidence.
• A claim does not become historically stronger merely because billions repeat it.

The camel line may offend people.

This should offend their logic:

The man who was never there is treated as a greater authority than testimony rooted in the place, century, government, and people who were.

That is the argument.

A WEAPON DOES NOT HAVE TO BE MADE OF STEEL

Weapons Freak is about weapons culture—but a weapon can be larger than the object someone carries.

• A story.
• A doctrine.
• A book.
• A political movement.
• A promise of paradise.
• A claim of divine authority.
• An empire.
• A government teaching its people who God hates and which enemy must die.

Steel can kill a body.

An ideology can command generations.

That may be the most powerful weapon mankind has ever created.

THE FINAL WEAPON ARRIVES

This discussion is larger than Muhammad, Joseph Smith, Rome, Iran, or the Crusades.

According to biblical prophecy, the final global system will combine:

• Religion.
• Political authority.
• Military power.
• Economic control.
• Supernatural signs.
• Worship of a global leader.

Revelation does not describe the final Beast as merely another politician.

He demands worship.

“And they worshipped the dragon which gave power unto the beast: and they worshipped the beast, saying, Who is like unto the beast? Who is able to make war with him?” — Revelation 13:4

Notice the combo:

Worship and war.

The Beast possesses political and military authority.
His False Prophet supplies religious legitimacy, supernatural signs, deception, and worship.

Together, they create something far more dangerous than just a government or a religion.

They create a global ideology that claims divine authority, commands obedience, controls economic participation, identifies its enemies, and possesses the power to punish anyone who refuses to worship.

This is why the weaponization of religion matters.

I am not claiming Islam is the final Beast system. I am pointing out that history has already demonstrated the mechanism:

• A man claims revelation.
• The revelation establishes the man’s authority.
• Religious obedience becomes political obedience.
• Political enemies become spiritual enemies.
• Warfare becomes sacred.
• Death becomes a doorway to promised reward.
• The system expands because resistance becomes rebellion against God.

Revelation warns that the final version will operate on a global scale.

People won’t just obey the Beast.

They will marvel at him. Fear him. Worship him.

While believing they are serving something righteous.

A weapon does not have to be made of steel.

The final weapon may be a global religion wrapped around a global government and pointed at everyone who refuses to worship.
